ALEC Launches Veterans and Military Affairs Task Force

Combined Arms CEO Mike Hutchings to Lead as Private Sector Chair

Houston, TX- The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has announced the
formation of the Veterans and Military Affairs Task Force, dedicated to equipping state
legislators with the necessary tools and resources to develop impactful policy solutions that
support veterans and the military community.

Leading the newly established task force are Iowa Speaker Pro Tempore John Wills, who will
serve as the Public Sector Chair, and Mike Hutchings, CEO of Combined Arms, who will serve
as the Private Sector Chair. Zach Federico from ALEC will serve as the Task Force Manager.
Together, this leadership team will address the complex challenges facing service members,
veterans, and their families. "The establishment of the Task Force on Veterans and Military
Affairs underscores ALEC's steadfast commitment to those who have selflessly served our
nation," stated ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson. "Through this Task Force, we will develop practical
and actionable model policies that deliver meaningful and tangible results for a community that
has given so much to our country."

As a veteran himself, Mike Hutchings brings firsthand experience to the task force.
"Transitioning from military to civilian life is no small feat—it presents distinct challenges that
demand practical, effective solutions," said Hutchings. "This task force is a true game-changer.
By working directly with legislators, we are crafting policies that will have a real, lasting impact
on veterans and their families. I am proud to be part of this initiative, which is dedicated to
bridging the gap between the struggles our veterans face and the opportunities they deserve."

ALEC's diverse membership positions it as a leader in supporting veterans and military families
with more than 10% of ALEC members are veterans, and an additional 9% have military ties or
serve on veterans and military affairs committees in their respective states.

The Veterans and Military Affairs Task Force will convene for its inaugural meetings at the 52nd
ALEC Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, where members will begin shaping policies that
strengthen support for service members, veterans, and their families.
